AI and the Labor Market: Are Millions of Jobs at Risk?
MIT, together with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, presented a digital model of the US labor market — the Iceberg Index. According to the researchers, modern AI technologies can already perform tasks that today occupy about 11.7% of the entire US workforce — that's approximately 17.7 million jobs and about $1.2 trillion in annual salaries 👩💻
Importantly, this is not about instant replacement of people, but about which tasks AI can already perform technically. The highest-risk group includes routine office work: data entry, administrative accounting, basic analytics, and repetitive processes.
