Student denied diploma over suspicions of using ChatGPT
At the University of Michigan, professors suspected a student of using ChatGPT due to an 'overly structured and formal' essay.
The student claims that she did not use AI — according to her, this writing style is related to a diagnosis of OCD and anxiety. Despite providing evidence, the university refused to change its decision, and the case is now being considered in federal court. While the proceedings are ongoing, she cannot receive her diploma.
Teachers are increasingly complaining about the influx of works created by neural networks and admit that traditional assignments are losing their meaning. But where is the line between a 'too good text' and actual AI usage? And will we soon start suspecting everyone who simply writes neatly and logically of using ChatGPT?
