AI Boom Forces Companies to Launch Their Own Power Plants
While we discuss neural networks, tech giants are building... their own power plants. The AI boom requires so much energy that regular grids can't cope — and companies decided not to wait. In the US, there are already dozens of AI facilities with on-site gas generation. The scale is impressive: one project in Texas will consume almost as much electricity as an entire metropolis of Chicago.
🤚 But there is a downside. Utility companies complain about rising costs, and local residents often learn about construction after the fact. AI, which is supposed to make life more convenient, is already changing the energy market and the rules of the game in regions. And this is only the beginning.
