German won court case with ChatGPT and did without a lawyer

A man from Leipzig prepared his own defense using ChatGPT and ultimately won the case. He was accused of fraud due to overpayment of benefits—after returning to work, the money continued to arrive for about another week. The amount was small, but the consequences could have been serious.

Instead of a lawyer, he decided to handle it himself—with the help of AI. ChatGPT helped him draft a detailed 18-page legal filing, which he submitted to court.

The outcome: the case was dismissed in his favor. According to the man, for him it was not about money but about reputation: a criminal record could have greatly complicated his life.
