OpenAI Claims Breakthrough in Mathematics—but Scientist Accuses Company of Stealing Ideas

OpenAI announced that its AI agents solved the Navier–Stokes problem in 88 hours, a problem mathematicians have been working on for more than 90 years. But almost immediately a scandal erupted: researcher Tristan Buckmaster said the company may have used the results of his work with Levent Alpöge.

According to the scientist, company employees even pressured him and asked why he wanted to “ruin his career.” 😳

OpenAI denies having access to the research, but admits that anonymized data from scientists could have influenced the AI’s training.
