Neurosurgeons in London have successfully used AI for the first time directly during a brain tumor removal operation. 48-year-old Rhys Hibbert had an 11-millimeter tumor removed in an area where even a one-millimeter error could have led to vision loss.

While the doctors fully controlled the operation, the AI analyzed the camera feed in real time and highlighted important structures that surgeons needed to avoid.

To train, the system studied hundreds of surgical videos. The operation was successful: just a week later, Hibbert was walking on his own without glasses or a cane, and later returned to work.
