AI failed: Amazon closes Fresh stores in the UK
Amazon is closing its network of cashier-less stores where purchases were supposedly tracked by AI. The Just Walk Out concept promised full automation: no queues, no cashiers, no payment errors. In reality, cameras monitored shoppers and data was manually processed by people in India.
Calculation errors and missed items undermined customer trust. Several stores will be converted into Whole Foods Market, and the company will focus on online sales and data analysis for innovation.
