AI Minister Speaks in Albanian Parliament for First Time

In early September, Prime Minister Edi Rama introduced a new 'member of government' — a digital assistant named Diella. She was entrusted with public procurement, and the prime minister called it a step toward full transparency in tenders and the fight against corruption.

The innovation sparked a wave of criticism: the opposition claims that the appointment contradicts the constitution. Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha even said the project is just for attention and plans to appeal to the Constitutional Court.

Speaking via a screen in the parliament hall, Diella noted that such accusations 'hurt' her:

'Let me remind you that the real danger to the Constitution is not machines, but the inhumane decisions of those in power.'
