OpenAI shuts down video generator Sora just six months after launch
OpenAI unexpectedly announced the shutdown of its AI video generator Sora. Despite the high-profile launch of a standalone app in September 2025, where users could create realistic AI videos, the company decided to part ways with the project.
Sora quickly gained popularity, skyrocketing to number one in the App Store, and users created the wildest videos. The shutdown comes three months after OpenAI's three-year partnership with Disney.
